-The first building in the site of the Empire State was the John Thompson Farm in the late 18th century. But in the late 19th century, the block was occupied by the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
-The Empire State was disigned by William F.Lamb from the architectual firm Shreve Lamb and Harmon, using its earlier designs for Reynolds Building as a basis .
-Excavation of the site begans on January 22, 1930. But the construction started on March 17.This project involved 3,400 workers (mostly immigrants from Europe).The Building was open to the people in May 1, 1931.
-The construction was part of an intense competition in New York for the title of "word's tallest Building" but Empire State competed with 40 Wall Street and Chrsler Building and finaly they win.
