I'm going to tall us about the Empire State Building a skyscraper located in Manhattan, New York.

History

-The first building in the site of the Empire State was the John Thompson Farm in the late 18th century. But in the late 19th century, the block was occupied by the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. 

 

-The Empire State was disigned by William F.Lamb from the architectual firm Shreve Lamb and Harmon, using its earlier designs for Reynolds Building as a basis .

 

-Excavation of the site begans on January 22, 1930. But the construction started on March 17.This project involved 3,400 workers (mostly immigrants from Europe).The Building was open to the people in May 1, 1931.

 

-The construction was part of an intense competition in New York for the title of "word's tallest Building" but Empire State competed with 40 Wall Street and Chrsler Building and finaly they win.

Materials:

Large quantities of stone,steel, concrete and metals are used to build the building Empire State. Each material has its place, its special role to play within the design of the building

The stone was used to make the wall

The steel serves to hold the structure

The concrete was used to make the floor

The metals was only used to decorate.

Shape: 
The shape of Empire State is square until the 5th floor, then in the 20th floor is gets a little inside in rectangular shape until it 29th floor where is gets a little more inside , then continues straight until in 71th floor, then begins inside more each time until the 86th floor and continues with an antenna until 1,454 ft.

Curiosities:

-Over the years, more than 30 people have attempted suicide, most successfully, by jumping from the upper parts of the building.

 

-At 9:40 am on Saturday, July 28, 1945, a B-25 Mitchell bomber, crashed into the north side of the Empire State Building,. One engine shot through the side opposite the impact and flew as far as the next block, where it landed on the roof of a nearby building, starting a fire that destroyed a penthouse. The other engine and part of the landing gear plummeted down an elevator shaft. Fourteen people were killed in the incident, but a  elevator operator Betty Lou Oliver survived a plunge of 75 floors inside an elevator, which still stands as the Guinness World Record for the longest survived elevator fall recorded.
